Discover the Magic of Bath Christmas Market

The award-winning Bath Christmas Market is back to spread festive magic throughout the city from Thursday 28th November to Sunday 15th December 2019. With over 150 twinkling chalets spread across Bath’s picturesque Georgian streets, it’s the perfect place to do a spot of Christmas shopping.

From stylish homeware to personalised presents, Christmas decorations, handcrafted jewellery and more, you’re guaranteed to find something special and truly unique for your loved ones.

This year, we have carefully selected the very best local craft makers and designers from the South West region, who will all be showcasing their unique, high-quality artisan gifts. You can tick off everything on your Christmas shopping list in one place and rest assured you are supporting small independent businesses. We are delighted to welcome over 30 brand-new stallholders to this year’s event, each with their own exciting range of Christmas gifts.

Festive Food

At Bath Christmas Market, you’ll find a range of tasty freshly prepared food, perfect for warming you up on a crisp winter’s day. Grab a delicious burger, hog roast, sweet treats, caramelised nuts or a comforting hot drink to keep you toasty while you wander around the Market. This year, there is also a new dedicated vegan food chalet.

For somewhere cosier and indoors, The Lodge is the perfect place to put your feet up. The Lodge can be found right at the centre of Bath Christmas Market on Stall Street.

Don’t forget to bring along your reusable cup to receive a discount on warming festive drinks from all of the Market’s caterers.

You can find more information about places to eat and drink in the city at visitbath.co.uk/feast.

Merry Music

Filling the streets with music and festive joy during Bath Christmas Market will be various entertainers, from community choirs to brass bands. Local school children will be singing their favourite Christmas songs, and Bath Abbey will be opening their doors for Shoppers’ Carols.

Head to New Bond Street to see who’s performing on the entertainment stage, and have a Christmas singsong around the piano decorated by local school children.

Charitable Spirit

Bath Christmas Market is proud to support local charities. Every day during the Market, a different local charity takes a chalet for free, and this year, for the first time, there will be two charity chalets, meaning that 36 local charities will be able to raise funds and build awareness of their causes. In 2018, over £12,000 was raised for charities who participated in the event, so make sure you pay a visit to the charity chalets located on Milsom Street and York Street and do what you can to show your support and help those in need.

We care about the local community and work hard to support as many groups as possible, from schools and colleges to choirs and dance troupes. Look out for the miniature Christmas garden designed and planted by children from Fosseway School in Radstock, a specialist school for special educational needs.

A Sustainable Market

Sustainability is at the heart of Bath Christmas Market, and each year, we strive to be more environmentally responsible, contributing positively to economic activity and social progress in the city. This ensures that we are a leader in event sustainability for the Bath and North East Somerset region.

Every year, we are taking steps to reduce the amount of single-use plastic used at the Market, working with contractors, stallholders and caterers to eliminate the plastic waste entering our oceans and potentially harming marine wildlife. By adopting a single-use plastic-free policy, we will be able to measure and audit the use of single-use plastics, setting targets for reduction and phasing them out by finding alternatives.

To make it easier to go plastic-free, the Visitor Information Centre on Terrace Walk now stocks Huskups – reusable cups made from rice husk, rather than plastic – perfect for your on-the-go festive hot drinks. Pop in to browse the range of eye-catching designs. Even better, drinks purchased in a reusable cup at the Market will be sold at a discounted rate.

The Visitor Information Centre is also part of the Refill Bath scheme. Download the Refill Bath app to find all the places in the city where you can fill your bottle with tap water.

To further reduce the Market’s emissions, all stallholders have also been encouraged to keep their stock in dedicated areas within the site, which is transported to them by electric cage vehicles, helping to reduce fuel usage.

Pop-Up Chalets

Each year, Bath Christmas Market has a selection of pop-up chalets on Bath Street for a limited time only.

We are passionate about supporting small businesses and offer these micro-businesses short-term lets because they would not be able to operate for the full duration. It is a great reason for you to visit the Market again and again, to see which up pop-up businesses are open that week.
