National Trust places around Bath will be bursting with Christmas joy this year with trails, trees, wreaths, walks and crafts galore, so why not pop in while you’re in the city?
If you’re in the city centre, take a visit up to Bath Assembly Rooms, where you’ll find the ballroom decorated with trees, lights and baubles among the opulent chandeliers. Presents will sit under the trees and festive music will fill the grand and sparkling space. Christmas crafts will run in the Great Octagon where you can make a decoration to hang on the community tree or take a moment to write that all important letter and post it to Father Christmas. A bracing walk from Bath’s centre is the gorgeous Prior Park where the iconic Palladian Bridge will be festooned with festive greenery, perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre for a couple of hours. A children’s advent trail will be running to keep those little ones entertained. The trail will run each weekend in December and during the school holidays. The Tea Shed will be open on selected dates for seasonal snacks and hot drinks. Christmas at Prior Park | Bath | National Trust
Just outside Bath is Dyrham Park which is putting on ‘Christmas through the ages’ this year with trails, crafts, and a house decorated with Christmases from five different eras ranging from Tudors right up to the 1940s. Trees will be decorated with lights and golden pears and giant Christmas presents will be dotted around the 270-acre site containing quiz questions on ancient and modern Christmas traditions. There will be a poetry trail through the wooded terraces and children’s crafts in the basement based on the popular poem ‘The Night Before Christmas’. Choirs and food and drink tastings are booked in on selected dates. Top it off with a selfie by the giant wreath. The gift shop is packed with cards, decorations and gift ideas and the main tea-room and café at Old Lodge in the parkland are open selling festive snacks, lunches, cakes and drinks.
